WHAT WE DO

Boy Playing with Blocks

We understand that the impacts of sensory and emotional regulation on Autistic, neurodivergent and human communication. Therefore, we believe our community must accept and adopted a Neurodiversity-affirming paradigm. This means that we accept that ALL brains and people are unique. This diversity makes our communities vibrant and unique.

Lopa speech pathology provides holistic support to individuals and families, implementing practices that are respectful, culturally aware and neurodiverse-affirming. We are a strengths based practice. We share our knowledge to empower clients to engage with the world the way it works best for them.

We consider each clients likes, dislikes, and strengths to help find the tools and strategies that work best for them to express themselves and be understood by the world.

Pre-linguistic skills

Pre-Linguistic Skills are the important foundational skills all children learn before their speech and language really starts to develop. Many children develop these skills naturally, however some require a little help. We accommodate neurodivergent needs and accept and embrace neurodivergent social communication differences.

Early Intervention Literacy

Assessment and intervention of developmental areas required for literacy development. This includes skills in language processing, verbal memory and phonological awareness.

Social and Emotional Learning and Development

We believe individuals should be free to be authentic rather than mask their emotions. Our person centred approach is neurodiverse-affirming, holistic, which aims to empower clients to explore authentic social connections in their daily interactions. We offer effective therapy choices that aim to build communication and connections to help people to strengthen their own voices, celebrate uniqueness, talents and strengths. We accommodate neurodivergent needs and accept and embrace neurodivergent social communication differences. â€‹

Language

Language disorders are a type of communication disorder where people have trouble using and understanding spoken language.

We break this down into 2 broad areas

  • receptive language (the ability to understand language)

  • expressive language (the ability to use language)

Being neurodiverse does not mean a person needs to be fixed.

A persons ability to think, learn and live differently comes with unique strengths and challenges. Neurodivergence should be accepted and valued as a natural part of humanity.

Speech

Assessment and Intervention to improve the clarity and co-ordination of your toddler or childs speech sounds. Many toddlers and young children can have difficulty producing all of the speech sounds that are needed to say words correctly. This can be a normal stage of development however, some children may have difficulties meeting the typical ‘milestones’ and could need some extra help.
